| | Dutch State Controlled Weed
As of December 15th, 2023, the time has finally come! Nineteen coffee shops in the Dutch cities of Breda and Tilburg have started selling the first legally grown weed in the Netherlands. The weed will be supplied by three legal growers. Transport to the stores will be secured.
Sales of state controlled marijuana in Breda and Tilburg are seen as a new phase in the cannabis experiment. The intention is that after the test phase in the provence of Brabant, the sale of legal weed will be expanded to other municipalities.
Currently Dutch coffeeshops aren not really allowed to sell weed, the state just choose not to prosecute them. The weed is supplied illegally through the back door. Municipalities and government officials in The Hague frown upon this weird construction. That is the reason the government decided upon starting this cannabis experiment.
